VAL DI SIEVE- CHIANTI RUFINA
Chianti Rufina lies around 20 km east of Florence, making part of a landscape that offers gently-rolling hills thick with vineyards and olive groves, these also intermingled with centuries-old woods.... Rufina is still a widely uncontaminated zone. In addition to the villas, the wine estates and their wines, one may visit churches dating back to the Roman era, ancient towers, medieval castles and Benedictine abbeys, these spotting the horizon which stretches from the Val di Sieve to Mugello and the Pratomagno, to the Apennine mountains that separate Tuscany from Romagna. Rufina has a total surface of 12,500 hectares, of which 700 are officially approved for the production of Chianti Rufina DOCG wine. In this zone, 25,000 hl of wine are produced each year, these coming from vineyards in different townships in the province of Florence, namely Pontassieve, Rufina, Pelago, Dicomano and Londa. The consortium´s members include 25 producers, whose wines are each different yet nevertheless united by the uniqueness of the terroir. These wines are distinctive in their richness, elegance and great structures. Where some samples: Castello di Nipozzano ( Marchesi dè Frescobaldi property); Castiglionchio; Az Agricola le Coste -Grati; Podere Castellare; Azienda Agricola Lecciole; Az. Agricola Colognole.
